Cyber police bust GST fraud racket, arrest four in Kheri
LUCKNOW, April 2 -- The cyber crime police in Lakhimpur Kheri busted an alleged GST fraud racket that used forged registrations and stolen identity documents of poor people to commit financial and cyber fraud. Four persons were arrested on Monday, and a large cache of digital devices and fake documents was seized, said officials on Wednesday.
According to a press note shared by the state police headquarters in Lucknow, the cyber crime police station in Kheri carried out the action under a statewide drive against cyber and financial fraud. The four accused have been identified as Deepak Singh alias Bhima, 26, of Barabanki, Ankit Dwivedi, 27, and Dhirendra Singh alias Kamal, 26, of Sitapur, and Raju, 36, of Kheri district.
During the operation, police seized 37 SIM cards, 26 checkbooks, 16 PAN cards, 20 Aadhaar cards, 21 rent agreement stamp papers, four GST registration certificates, four Udyam registration certificates, five mobile phones, one laptop, one pen drive, a digital signature device, 19 keys, multiple rubber stamps, passport-size photographs, photocopies of identity documents and Rs.26,100 in cash.
The accused were booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with Section 66C of the Information Technology Act for identity theft and cyber fraud.
Officials said the accused were also allegedly involved in earlier cases registered at different police stations in Kheri district, which the cyber crime police station is investigating. Further legal proceedings are underway....
