Cops link stress over children's screen time to woman's death
LUCKNOW, April 24 -- A 46-year-old woman died on Wednesday evening after jumping from the Husadiya railway bridge in Gomti Nagar Extension. The woman was later identified late at night.
Police identified the deceased as a resident of the Viraj Khand area in Vibhuti Khand. The woman's husband works as an officer in a mobile company and they have two children-one aged 15 and the other 9.
According to Lucknow police's statement, the incident was reported around 6:30 pm, following which a team rushed to the spot and took the critically injured woman to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
"Scanning CCTV footage from the area found that the woman had walked alone towards the bridge. She was seen removing her slippers before jumping, indicating a deliberate act," said Sudheer Awasthi, SHO, Gomti Nagar Vistar.
"According to some family members, she had been under considerable stress over her children's studies and their excessive screen time. She had left home around 5 pm on Wednesday, and the incident occurred shortly after," the SHO added.
However, the family denied claims that she took the extreme step due to the stress over excessive screen time of her children. "We do not believe it, as this cannot be the reason for someone to kill herself. We're not in a right state of mind right now and will pursue the case later," the elder brother of the woman's husband said to Hindustan Times.
Officials said further inquiry is underway, and statements of family members are being recorded to ascertain the sequence of events leading up to the incident....
