Cops bust inter-state burglars' gang, 4 held
LUCKNOW, Feb. 17 -- An interstate gang of burglars from Bihar that targeted locked houses in Lucknow, has been busted by the South Zone police of the Lucknow Police Commissionerate here on Monday. The four accused arrested in the case, used to flee to their native place right after committing the crime to evade tracking.
The case was solved after investigators scanned more than 350 CCTV camera footage and pieced together technical and manual evidence, said police.
Police also said that out of four arrested, two of the accused who are brothers are the sons of PAC head constables.
DCP South Nipun Agarwal, while holding a presser, said the accused are natives of Kaimur and Saran districts of Bihar and had adopted a pattern of striking in Lucknow and then fleeing back to their home state to avoid arrest. They would maintain rented accommodation in the Nadarganj area and worked as drivers or mechanics to avoid suspicion.
According to the DCP, two of the accused would conduct reconnaissance of residential colonies, identify houses locked for several days, and keep watch.
Once certain that no one was inside, the gang would break the locks late at night using iron rods, steal valuables and quickly disperse.
"Soon after, they would return to Bihar and stay there until the situation cooled down," added the DCP. "This back-and-forth movement between Lucknow and Bihar made tracking them difficult," said Agarwal.
"The arrested men have been identified as Sonu Singh, 26, and Shaktiman Singh, 26, both brothers and natives of Kaimur district while two others are Sonu Kumar Sah alias Sonu Pahadi, 31, from Saran district, and Brijesh Nishad, 29, from Fatehpur district," stated the press note.
"The four accused were arrested near Vrindavan Gate under PGI Police Station limits. Police recovered Rs.42,362 in cash, an air gun (rifle), and a large quantity of stolen jewellery. The haul included gold chains, rings, mangalsutras, bangles, anklets, earrings, pendants and necklaces, along with four wristwatches and two pearl necklaces," said ADCP Vasanth Rallapalli.
Police examined around 350 CCTV clips from the colony and surrounding routes, tracking suspicious movements on the night of February 4 and 5. Technical surveillance and local inputs led to the identification and eventual arrest of the four accused.
The arrests came after a burglary at a house in Eldeco Udyan-II. was reported when the occupants had travelled out of the city between February 2 and February 6 to attend a wedding. On return, they found the house ransacked and valuables missing.
An FIR was registered under Section 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with Section 317(2) added later.
Police records show that at least two of the accused have multiple previous cases registered against them in Lucknow, including theft and NDPS-related offences....
