CM announces key projects for development in Chamoli
Dehradun, Dec. 8 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday made several key announcements related to infrastructure, sports and regional development in the state.
Addressing a public gathering on the occasion of Armed Forces Day in Chamoli's Savad district, the chief minister announced that approval has been granted for the construction of mini stadiums at Talwari in Tharali and Lakhi in Nandanagar to boost sports facilities and create avenues for youngsters in the district.
He said the process to hand over the Gwaldam-Dewal-Van motor road to the border roads organisation (BRO) will be expedited after the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra
He said the move will ensure better road quality, maintenance and security.
The CM added that construction of the road connecting Rampur Torti to the Kumaon region is also among the government's priorities.
Dhami also declared the "Amar Shaheed Sainik Mela, Savad" a state fair - a long-standing demand of residents and the veterans' community.
The decision, he said, is a significant step towards honouring the region's tradition of service and sacrifice.
Earlier, the CM visited the Sainik Smriti Museum in Savad and paid homage to the soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation.
Inaugurating the 18th edition of the Amar Shaheed Sainik Mela, he said the land of Savad has always exemplified patriotism and valour.
Dhami said he hails from a military family, and visiting Savad reminded him of the stories of courage narrated by his father. Soldiers from the village have repeatedly made unparalleled sacrifices for national security, he said.
The CM said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian defence sector has undergone historic reforms.
India, once dependent on foreign nations for defence equipment, is now among the leading exporters of critical military hardware, he added.
Referring to "Operation Sindoor", he said the mission once again showcased India's strategic capability, the courage of its soldiers and the strength of indigenous weapon systems.
Dhami said the state government has taken firm steps against "love jihad" and "spit jihad" to protect the cultural identity and social harmony of Devbhoomi.
The CM said Uttarakhand has become the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) on the ground, adding that fulfilling promises through action -- rather than mere announcements -- reflects true governance.
Tharali MLA Bhupal Ram Tamta, district magistrate Gaurav Kumar, superintendent of police Surjeet Singh Panwar were present on the occasion.
December 7 is observed as Armed Forces Flag Day to honour the valour, sacrifice and service of India's soldiers, air warriors and sailors. The day is dedicated to collecting funds for the welfare of serving personnel, ex-servicemen and their families, including war widows and disabled veterans....
