GORAKHPUR, Feb. 22 -- A violent confrontation broke out between two rival groups behind Saraswati Shishu Mandir in the Beni Ganj area on Saturday evening, triggering a panic-like situation in the locality. Police rushed to the spot, but the troublemakers fled by the time officers arrived, officials said. According to police, youths from the Andhiyari Bagh locality and the Transport Nagar crossing area had a long-standing feud. On Saturday, a heated verbal exchange between members of the two groups at a tea shop escalated into stone-pelting and vandalism that lasted nearly 15 minutes, causing widespread fear among residents. The sudden violence forced many shopkeepers to shut their businesses early. Circle officer (Kotwali) Omkar Dutt Tiwari said four suspects had been detained and an investigation was underway. An FIR will be registered after written complaints were received, he added. Shopkeepers reported that more than 10 youths arrived and began hurling bricks and stones at the tea shop. Several vehicles parked nearby were also vandalised, forcing residents to flee to safety. SHO (Tiwaripur) PK Singh said police reached the scene immediately after receiving information, but the suspects had already escaped. "Police teams are conducting raids in nearby areas to identify and arrest those involved," he said, adding that the clash appears to have stemmed from rivalry between youths from neighboring localities....
