KANPUR, April 13 -- The Mumbai-Delhi Punjab Mail was briefly halted at Jhansi on Sunday after former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti failed to board the train on time. Bharti, a former MP from Jhansi, was scheduled to travel to Delhi. The train arrived at 2:18 pm and departed on time while she was still being escorted to her coach. Initially directed towards an escalator, she was later shifted to a battery-operated cart. The cart was delayed by congestion caused by a passing train and a hand trolley obstructing its path, by which time the train had begun to move. Officials present reportedly pulled the emergency chain, allowing Bharti to board. The train resumed its journey about five minutes later. Calling the episode an administrative failure, Bharti said she would raise the issue with railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, highlighting inadequate facilities for the elderly and differently abled. Railway officials had not issued a formal response on the issue at the time of filing. htc...
