Car buyer alleges Rs.4 lakh fraud at showroom
LUCKNOW, Feb. 5 -- What began as a routine car purchase turned into a financial shock for a man from Bahraich, who has alleged that he was cheated of nearly Rs.4 lakh at a car showroom in Lucknow's Krishna Nagar area after a salesman allegedly took the money and vanished.
SHO Krishna Nagar P.K. Singh said an FIR has been registered and the matter is being investigated on the basis of available evidence.
Khalil, a resident of Mahsi in Bahraich district, told police that he visited the showroom to buy a car and was assisted by a salesman identified as Rakesh Gajendra Singh. After finance-related formalities, the on-road price of the vehicle was fixed at Rs.8.75 lakh.
According to the complaint, Khalil paid Rs.25,000 in cash as the booking amount and received a receipt. He alleged that between December 1 and December 10, the salesman asked him to make online payments by scanning a QR code, claiming it was part of the financed amount. The payments, totalling Rs.3.98 lakh, were made in several installments from the bank accounts of his son Nizamuddin and nephew Sonu Ali.
When Khalil returned to the showroom about 15 days later to take delivery of the car, the salesman was missing. The showroom manager allegedly denied receiving any amount beyond the booking sum and refused to hand over the vehicle, asking Khalil to recover the money from the person he had paid. Khalil later approached the Krishna Nagar police station after which the FIR was lodged....
