LUCKNOW, Feb. 2 -- Cancer survivors took centre stage at 'UMANG - Celebration of Life', where stories of courage, resilience and hope were shared to mark the triumph of life over disease. The event brought together cancer survivors, doctors, caregivers and guests for an evening that combined personal narratives, performances and motivational addresses. The programme, organised by Apollo Hospitals at a city hotel on Sunday, also witnessed skits and plays enacted by cancer survivors. Educator and motivational speaker Vikas Divyakirti connected instantly with the audience with sporting analogies to underline his message that "fortune favours the brave". He revealed that he has witnessed multiple cancer cases within his own family, each leaving a lasting impact on his outlook on life. Speaking about his maternal aunt, who was diagnosed with fourth-stage cancer, yet she never lost hope. Another moving example was of a five-year-old girl suffering from a rare retinal cancer, which required the removal of her eyes to save her life. "However, today she holds a senior executive position in the United States," he said.
