Brother and sister die by suicide after losing eviction case
Jhansi, Jan. 28 -- A brother and sister died by suicide in Banda district on Monday evening after losing a civil court case that ordered them to vacate their home and a shop, police said. The incident took place in the Naraini area under Kalinjar police station. T
he siblings, aged 30 and 32, were unmarried and ran a small shop, which was their only source of income.
Both the house and the shop were owned by their uncle, and a civil dispute over eviction had been going on for some time. On January 19, the court ordered eviction from both properties. Police said the two were under severe stress after the order. On Monday evening, they left home on a two-wheeler and went to a riverside area near the Barchan bridge, close to the Naraini Kalinjar border. There, they consumed poisonous tablets.
Later in the night, locals noticed them lying unconscious and informed the police. They were taken to hospital, where doctors declared them dead. Circle officer Saurabh Singh said preliminary investigation showed death due to consumption of poisonous substances.
