Body of woman recovered from Darchula river, suicide suspected
Dehradun, April 8 -- The body of a 25-year-old woman who allegedly jumped into a river in the Balwakot area of Dharchula in Pithoragarh district was recovered on Tuesday after an extensive search operation by the state disaster response force (SDRF), officials familiar with the matter said, adding that they are investigating whether the case was of suicide.
According to officials, the SDRF team received information from the disaster control room in Pithoragarh district at 8.30am on Monday that a woman had jumped into a river near Balwakot in the Dharchula area.
Following the alert, an SDRF team from the Askot SDRF Post, led by sub-inspector Pushkar Jeena of SDRF, rushed to the spot with necessary rescue equipment and launched a search operation. Despite intensive efforts, the woman could not be located on Monday, officials said.
On Tuesday, the SDRF team resumed the search operation and conducted a thorough scan of the river and nearby areas. During the operation, the team recovered the body of the woman from the river.
Officials said the deceased has been identified as a 25-year-old woman. The body has been handed over to local police for further legal formalities. According to officials, further investigation is underway to ascertain the reason the woman took the step. htc...
