LUCKNOW, April 12 -- A woman's body was exhumed here in Kakori on Saturday after police alleged that her daughter-in-law with the help of her alleged lover, poisoned her to death, triggering a murder investigation. The incident pertains to April 5 in Ibrahim Ganj village near Mohan Road under Kakori police station limits. The deceased was identified as Shanti Devi. Satish Rathod, station house officer (SHO), said suspicion arose after the woman's son, Manoj Rawat, lodged an FIR on April 10 against his wife Shalini Rawat and her nephew Karan, alleging foul play in his mother's death. During questioning, the accused woman allegedly confessed that she, along with her alleged lover, mixed a toxic substance in food served to her mother-in-law. Police said the alleged motive was an illicit relationship, which the victim had opposed. Officials said the accused had allegedly also planned to eliminate her husband and father-in-law to gain control over the family's property and start a new life. Following permission from the district administration, police exhumed the body around 6:30 pm on Saturday and sent it for postmortem examination. A forensic team also collected evidence from the spot. Investigators said a piece of bread allegedly laced with poison was recovered from the house based on the accused's disclosure.
