VARANASI, Feb. 23 -- A 3300 horsepower AC-AC diesel-electric locomotive manufactured by BLW (Banaras Locomotive Works) was successfully dispatched to Mozambique on Saturday, said BLW public relations officer Rajesh Kumar on Sunday and added that this was the 10th unit of the engines sent so far. This achievement is a significant testament to BLW's global competitiveness and the growing international credibility of Indian Railways, said Kumar and added that the BLW had received an export order to manufacture and supply a total of 10 units of 3300 horsepower AC-AC diesel-electric locomotives for Mozambique. All 10 locomotives were produced in a phased manner within the stipulated time by BLW and the supply of these locomotives was carried out through RITES Limited under a contract for the manufacture and export of 10 locomotives. This export programme establishes Indian Railways' production efficiency, technical reliability, and timely execution capabilities at the global level. Technological excellence and modern features These state-of-the-art 3300 horsepower Cape gauge (1067 mm) locomotives manufactured by BLW are capable of operating at speeds of up to 100 km/h. The locomotives are equipped with modern, internationally benchmarked features, including Advanced AC-AC traction technology, Modern and ergonomic cab design, Driver-friendly facilities such as refrigerator, hot plate, and mobile holder. These features ensure enhanced driver comfort, operational efficiency, and reliability, representing the high quality of Indian engineering.
