Bihar House session likely to start on Dec 1
Patna, Nov. 24 -- The first cabinet meeting of the new Bihar government is likely to be convened on Tuesday to fix the date for the inaugural session of the 18th legislative assembly, people familiar with the matter said on Sunday, indicating that the assembly session is likely to begin on December 1.
A senior Vidhan Sabha official, on the condition of anonymity, said the assembly session would feature the oaths of the newly elected legislators and the election of the Speaker of the House.
Leaders aware of the details, meanwhile, said the inaugural session will likely be for four-five days. "Usually, the first thing that happens after the chief minister taking oath with his ministers is to hold a cabinet meeting, mostly the same day, and fix the date for convening the inaugural session, but this time it has got a bit delayed," a senior Janata Dal (United) leader said, declining to be named.
The pro-tem speaker, usually the longest-serving legislator, administers the oath to the state's 243 legislators. The Governor appoints the pro-tem speaker from a panel of names of senior most legislators sent by the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat.
