Banda jail supdt, jailer booked
KANPUR, Feb. 4 -- A case was registered on Tuesday against the Banda district jail superintendent and a jailer over the January 29 release of alleged gangster Ravindra Singh alias Ravi Kana without court order even as a special investigation team (SIT) has been set up to probe the matter, police said.
The case was lodged at Kotwali police station on the complaint of jail police post in-charge Anurag Pandey. In his complaint, Pandey alleged that Ravindra Singh, a resident of Greater Noida, was released from Banda district jail last Thursday despite a B-warrant being in force, and without any order from the competent court in Gautam Buddh Nagar.
SP, Banda, Palash Bansal said an FIR has been registered under Section 260 (c) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against jail superintendent Anil Kumar Gautam, suspended jailer Vikram Singh Yadav and other unidentified persons involved in the incident.
"The release was carried out without following due legal procedure. The role of all officials concerned is being investigated," Bansal said.
An SIT has been formed under additional superintendent of police Shivraj to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident. The team includes the woman police station in-charge and other officers.
Meanwhile, police teams from multiple districts have been deployed to trace Ravindra Singh, who is facing several criminal cases related to the scrap trade.
Officials said efforts are on to ascertain whether the release was the result of procedural negligence or deliberate misconduct....
