LUCKNOW, Jan. 31 -- Left-arm orthodox spinners Akshu Bajwa and Shubham Mishra bowled superbly to help spirited Uttar Pradesh off to a fine start in their crucial Elite Group D encounter of the Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy against hosts Uttarakhand at the Kaushiki Cricket Ground in Ramnagar on Friday. Bajwa and Mishra shared nine wickets between them as Uttar Pradesh managed to skittle out Uttarakhand for 170 in their first innings on Day One of their four-day encounter. Whereas Bajwa took his career-best 6/31 at an economy of 2.07, Mishra bagged 3/82 at 3.73. In reply, Uttar Pradesh finished the day at 105/2. For Uttarakhand, openers Aditya Nathani and Lincoln could show some resistance before the Uttar Pradesh bowlers with some fine shots all around the ground after being asked to bat first. In fact, Mishra led Uttarakhand's fall as he removed Lincoln (31, 69b, 4x4) caught by Adarsh Singh and then Bajwa had the wicket of a consistent-looking Naithani, caught by Mohd Amaan after scoring 115-ball 59 with the help of 11 boundaries. However, the departure of these two in quick succession opened the flood gate for the two spinners as they ripped through Uttarakhand's batting with fine spells. Whereas Mishra took further wickets of Ishgra Jagoori (9) and Uday Sharma (1), Bajwa had the wickets of captain harsh Rana (1), Sanskar Rawat (27), Utkarsh (0), Nishu Patel (16) and Devansh (17). In their first innings in reply, Uttar Pradesh made a fine start with two openers Adarsh Singh and Deepak Rajput stitching together 62 runs for the first wicket. Singh scored 47 in 78 balls with the help of 10 boundaries, whereas Rajput made just 12 with two boundaries. At close of stumps, Kavya Teotia (24, 56b, 4x4) and Shubham Mishra (0) were at the crease. Defending champions Uttar Pradesh on Friday won the Under-14 Central Zone Rajsingh Dungapur Trophy, defeating hosts Rajasthan on the basis of the first innings lead, at the Daly College Ground in Indore as the two-day final ended in a tame draw. While chasing Rajasthan's total of 218, Uttar Pradesh scored 590 and took 372 runs lead. Harsh Singh struck 188 in 264 balls with the help of 28 boundaries, whereas Ayushman yadav (157, 193b, 25x4) and Arnav Blotiya (85, 109b, 11x4, 2x6) were the other main run getters....
