Bad Kathmandu weather: 3 flights diverted to Lucknow airport
LUCKNOW, April 26 -- Severe weather conditions in Kathmandu briefly turned Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport into a critical diversion hub late Friday-Saturday night, as three international flights carrying over 600 passengers were rerouted to the city, a spokesperson for the Lucknow airport said.
Flights operated by Thai Airways International, Air Arabia and Cathay Pacific were unable to land in Kathmandu due to sudden deterioration in weather conditions, including poor visibility and unsafe landing conditions.
The affected flights - from Bangkok (TG-309), Sharjah (G-9530), and Hong Kong (CX-603) - circled Kathmandu airspace before being diverted to Lucknow between 10 pm and 11:30 pm, the spokesperson added.
Airport authorities in Lucknow swiftly managed the unexpected influx, arranging basic passenger services and coordinating ground handling during the unscheduled halt. Despite the late-night disruption, operations remained orderly.
Once weather conditions improved in Kathmandu, all three flights were cleared for departure and resumed their journey....
