LUCKNOW, Jan. 26 -- The launch of Lucknow's privately operated automated driving licence testing centre in Banthra has been delayed and is now expected to become operational in February instead of the first week of January, as originally planned, officials said. Once the facility starts functioning, applicants seeking permanent driving licences will have to appear for their driving tests at the Banthra centre. Biometric verification and document checks, including photographs and thumb impressions, will continue to be conducted at the Transport Nagar RTO, according to the officials. A senior official associated with the Banthra testing centre said: "The centre is at the final stage, but a few formalities and finishing work remain. That is why operations could not begin in January," the official said. Confirming the new arrangement, Prabhat Pandey, assistant regional transport officer, said the process will be carried out in two stages. He said applicants will first complete biometric verification and will then be directed to the Banthra automated testing centre for the driving test....
