At least 17 killed, 18 injured in blast at Nagpur explosives factory; CM Fadnavis orders probe
Nagpur, March 2 -- At least 17 persons were killed and 18 others injured in a powerful blast that tore through an explosives manufacturing factory in Maharashtra's Nagpur district on Sunday morning, police said.
The incident comes a day after a blast at a cracker unit in Andhra Pradesh's Kakinada district claimed 21 lives.
The blast took place at the SBL Energy Limited factory, a mining and industrial explosives manufacturer, at Raulgaon in Katol tehsil of Nagpur district, a senior police official said.
At least 17 persons were killed and 18 others suffered injuries, the police said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced compensation of Rs.2 lakh each for the kin of those dead in the blast.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered a thorough investigation and said the state government would provide Rs.5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.
The bodies were charred beyond recognition and samples of the family members were being taken for DNA testing to ascertain the identities of the deceased.P4...
