Assaulted by peers, Class 5student loses vision in one eye
LUCKNOW, Feb. 1 -- A Class 5 student was allegedly assaulted by students of another section at a private school in the Cantonment area of Lucknow, resulting in the loss of vision in one eye, police said on Saturday. Based on a complaint filed by the victim's mother, a case has been registered against the accused students and some school staff members, they added.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred around 12:30 pm on January 21. The woman, a resident of Nirbhay Vihar, alleged that students from another section pushed her son to the school playground, where he was pummelled and kicked.
She further alleged that the accused rubbed the heel of a shoe against the child's eye and face, causing severe injuries and subsequent loss of vision.
The injured student is currently undergoing treatment at Command Hospital.
The complainant said she first approached the school administration seeking action, but no steps were taken. She then approached the Cantonment police station and lodged a complaint against the students involved as well as certain school staff members for alleged negligence.
Cantonment station house officer (SHO) Gurpreet Kaur confirmed that an FIR has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 117(2) (causing grievous hurt), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act against a Class 5 student and a Class 3 student, along with unidentified school staff.
