Gorakhpur, Jan. 10 -- Thousands of Asha Bahu female health workers from across the Gorakhpur Division gathered at Rani Laxmi Bai Park on Friday to submit a charter of demands to district authorities. The protest turned tense when the workers tried to march towards the district magistrate's office. Kotwali police reportedly locked the main gate of the municipal premises with ropes to stop them from moving out. The workers also alleged that the police threatened them with a lathi charge and filing of criminal cases. Police said the memorandum had been received and would be forwarded to district magistrate Deepak Meena, but they declined to make further comments. htc...
