Anuj, Anirudh claim golden doubles in tennis
LUCKNOW, Jan. 28 -- Spirited Anuj displayed a stellar performance at the Chandraprakash Agarwal Memorial 2nd Gyan Dairy Tennis Tournament, winning both the men's singles and doubles titles, at the La Martiniere Lawn Tennis Facility here on Tuesday.
Anirudh also achieved the distinction of being a double winner, triumphing in the Under-18 category and the men's doubles final. In the men's singles final, Anuj defeated Anirudh in a hard-fought match with a score of 7-5 to claim the title.
In the men's doubles final, the pair of Anuj and Anirudh defeated the pair of Shailendra and Vansh Raj in a thrilling tie-break match with a score of 7-3 (7-6) to lift the winner's trophy. The Under-18 boys' title was also decided in a tie-break, where Anirudh, after a tough fight, defeated Sanidhya 7-4 (7-6) to win the winner's trophy. In the Under-16 boys' final, Sanidhya proved his superiority by defeating Rohin Raj 6-2, whereas in the Under-12 boys' final, Abhay Pal defeated Vibhor 7-5 (4-3). In the Under-14 boys' category, Tejas Singh gave a brilliant one-sided performance, defeating Riddhiman Rajput 6-0 to clinch the title. In the Under-10 boys' category, Mohammad Hamdan and Arsh Kant Singh were declared joint winners.
Lucknow's Agha Shakir has been nominated as an umpire for the Badminton Asia Team Championship, scheduled to be held from February 1 to 8 at Qingdao China. Shakir, who works for North Eastern Railway in Lucknow, will also be attending the Badminton Asia Umpires Course (BA C to BWF). Before this Shakir has already officiated in international events like Asian Badminton Junior Championship, Seniors Masters World Championship etc.
Kuldeep Chauhan struck a fine century as Youth Cricket Club posted 372/5 in 75 overs on the first-day of the two-day semi-final of the B Division League against Indian Eleven Cricket Club, at the GCRG Ground here on Tuesday.
