Amit Shah charts BJP's 2027 strategy in closed-door meet
LUCKNOW, Jan. 25 -- Union home minister Amit Shah's first visit to the BJP state headquarters since 2022 wasn't just a courtesy call; it marked the beginning of the party's ground-level preparations for retaining power in Uttar Pradesh's 2027 assembly elections.
After arriving from Rashtriya Prerna Sthal on Saturday, Shah was welcomed by state general secretary (organisation) Dharampal Singh at the party office.
The closed-door meeting, attended by chief minister Yogi Adityanath, deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, and other senior leaders, focused on preparations for the March-April 2027 assembly polls. Shah's message to the leadership centred on working together cohesively.
During the 30 to 40-minute session, Shah gathered feedback on potential opposition alliances against the BJP in 2027. Party sources said he also reviewed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
With the new state chief, Pankaj Chaudhary, present, discussions covered anticipated organisational changes within the party structure.
Shah, who served as BJP national president from July 2014 to January 2020, played a key role in the party's 2017 assembly victory. Under his leadership alongside PM Narendra Modi, the BJP returned to power after 14 years with a commanding majority, securing 324 seats.
