Almora Forest staff to escort kids to school
Haldwani, Feb. 5 -- After a female leopard and its cubs were spotted near school premises in the Sult block of Almora district, the Uttarakhand forest and education departments have decided to escort students to and from school, forest officials said.
According to officials, the leopard and its cubs were seen roaming near the government primary school and inter college at Totam village.
Villagers alerted the forest department, following which camera traps were installed and intensive patrolling was launched to monitor the movement of the big cats, officials aware of the matter.
Due to concerns over children's safety, the principals of the government primary school and inter college decided to close the institutions on February 2 and 3.
The body of a 5-year-old boy who was carried away by a leopard in Rudraprayag on Tuesday was recovered late in the day after intensive searches, officials said on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Daksh Bisht, they said, adding that a total of 20 personnel from forest department, 14 personnel from District Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force, 6 personnel from the district administration, and a police team recovered the body at around 11 pm....
