Agra set for extended celebrations
Agra, April 15 -- Agra is set to witness extended celebrations on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti. These festivities are to continue till April 17 and a structure has been erected at the GIC ground of Agra on the pattern of the palace of King Ashoka.
Here deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya will address the gathering on Wednesday.
To erect the main stage, about 80 artisans from Kolkata gave shape to the 125 feet high and 300 feet wide palace over 20 days, with the pinnacle of the palace carrying the national flag, Ashoka Chakra and flag of 'Panchsheel' to communicate the message.
While celebrations in most parts of the nation are confined to April 14, in Agra, an annual Shobha Yatra is taken out.
This time, the Yatra will move through the city on the night of April 14 and includes a tableau on the life, principles and teachings of Dr Ambedkar. Next day, this Yatra will reach 'Bhim Nagari' - set up in different localities each year. This year it is at Gyaspura.
It is at this Bhim Nagari that celebrations will be organised from April 15 to 17 and this year, musical presentations will be the highlight, said Rahul Sagar, the regional convenor of Bhim Nagari.
"On April 15, Punjabi singer Ginni Mahi will perform, followed by singer Anup Jatav on April 16, and Devi Ram Pappu on April 17....
