After court order, Cong seeks FIR against Anuj Chaudhary
LUCKNOW, Jan. 17 -- The Uttar Pradesh government must comply with the Sambhal court order and register an FIR against Anuj Chaudhary, Congress leaders said while addressing a press conference here on Friday.
Shahnawaz Alam, secretary of the All-India Congress Committee (AICC), said: "The decision of the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court has raised serious questions about the magisterial inquiry conducted by the state government into the Sambhal violence." "The court order suggests that the police were given a clean chit in the inquiry to protect them. It, therefore, becomes necessary that the Sambhal police violence be investigated through a judicial inquiry by a high court judge. To prevent obstruction of the judicial process, the then Sambhal circle officer Anuj Chaudhary and SHO Anuj Tomar should be immediately suspended and sent to jail," Shahnawaz said.
The case relates to a petition filed by Yameen, a resident of Mohalla Khaggu Sarai Anjuman, who alleged that his 24-year-old son Alam had left home on November 24, 2024, to sell rusks and was shot by police personnel when he reached the Shahi Jama Masjid area.
Manoj Yadav, chairperson of the UP Congress OBC wing, along with former state general secretary (organisation) Anil Yadav and former state vice-president Dinesh Singh, alleged that the state police had adopted similar "criminal methods" during protests against the CAA-NRC in Bijnor and other districts....
