Accused held in codeine syrup nexus in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, Feb. 6 -- Police here on Wednesday arrested Mohammad Saif of Shahganj, an accused in an alleged illegal codeine-based cough syrup trade, near Devghar crossing under the Airport police station limits. During interrogation, Saif allegedly told police that he and his brother, Faizur Rahman, had been running a cough syrup smuggling network for a long time.
According to police, the alleged operation involved diversion and supply of codeine-based syrup through fake firms, including M/s MK Healthcare in Prayagraj and PD Pharma in Varanasi. Saif's brother Faizur Rahman, who was allegedly managing similar activities in Varanasi, was arrested there on January 23 and sent to jail. Police said the network allegedly extended to Kanpur as well.
SHO Vinay Kumar Singh said that based on information that emerged during questioning, Faizur Rahman's name has now been formally added to the Prayagraj case....
