Accountant held red-handed taking Rs.10K bribe in Kaushambi
PRAYAGRAJ, Feb. 24 -- The Prayagraj unit of the vigilance department on Monday arrested an accountant posted at Manjhanpur tehsil in Kaushambi red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000. He had reportedly demanded the money to prepare a status certificate report.
The team took the accountant into custody, and the SDM has initiated departmental proceedings against him.
Bholanath Jaiswal, a resident of Champaha Bazaar under Paschimsharira police station limits in Kaushambi, had applied for a status certificate.
The accountant's report was required to process the application. Local accountant Mahendra Kumar Maurya allegedly made him visit the office repeatedly for several days before demanding a bribe of Rs.10,000 for a favourable report. Upset over the demand, Bholanath lodged a complaint with the Prayagraj Vigilance team.
Taking the complaint seriously, the vigilance team assured action. On Monday, the accountant allegedly called Bholanath to a sweet shop in Champaha Bazaar to collect Rs.10,000. As soon as the money was handed over, the team caught him red-handed.
After informing the authorities, the vigilance team took the accountant with them.
SDM (Manjhanpur) SP Verma said only verbal information about the arrest has been received so far.
He added that once the vigilance team proceeds with formal action, departmental proceedings will be initiated and the accountant will be suspended....
