A tobacco-free gen is the foundation of ahealthy society, says Pathak
LUCKNOW, Jan. 31 -- The foundation of a healthy society is laid by a tobacco-free generation, said Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak on Friday.
Addressing the 7th National Tobacco Control Conference organized by the Department of Community Medicine, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rae Bareli, Pathak said that approximately 1.3 million deaths in India are linked to tobacco use every year.
Tobacco is a major risk factor for heart disease, cancer, COPD, and stroke. He said that tobacco control is not just a health policy, but a social policy.
Effective tobacco control is possible only through regulation, education, tax policy, and public awareness. Tobacco control is not a health program, but a national human capital protection policy....
