61-year-old man dies after alleged assault by daughter's in-laws
Lucknow, Feb. 28 -- A 61-year-old man who was allegedly assaulted by his daughter's in-laws in the Banthra area of Lucknow succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a trauma centre on Thursday night, police said on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Ram Naresh. His body was sent for post-mortem examination, and further legal action is underway.
According to police, the incident is linked to a dowry harassment complaint filed by Ram Naresh's daughter, Pooja Rawat, a resident of Gauri in Sarojini Nagar. She married Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Chak village under Banthra police station limits, about two years ago.
Pooja alleged that her husband and in-laws had been harassing her for dowry since her marriage. She said that after delivering a healthy baby by C-section on February 13, her in-laws took the newborn away and did not allow her to breastfeed. After informing her family about the situation, Ram Naresh, accompanied by his younger daughter, went to Pooja's in-laws' home on February 22 to bring her back. Pooja alleged that her in-laws abused and assaulted them. During the altercation, Ram Naresh was allegedly attacked on the head with a spade, leaving him critically injured.
He was first taken to Lok Bandhu Hospital but was later referred to the trauma centre due to the severity of his injuries, where he died during treatment on Thursday night.
Police said the in-laws refused to hand over the newborn, forcing Pooja to return to her parental home. After her February 22 complaint, Banthra police registered a case, recovered the baby and returned it to her. SHO Rana Rajesh Singh said husband Sandeep was arrested and culpable homicide charges were added after Ram Naresh's death.htc...
