6 new e-buses deployed on Prayagraj-Vns route
PRAYAGRAJ, Jan. 26 -- All six state-of-the-art electric buses recently allocated to Prayagraj have now been deployed on the Prayagraj-Varanasi route. While the initial plan was to operate them across four major routes-Lucknow, Ayodhya, Kanpur, and Varanasi-the transport department has, for the time being, assigned the entire fleet to this single route. Passenger fares have been kept at the same rate as the Janrath 2x2 buses for convenience.
The eco-friendly buses, running from the Leader Road depot, come equipped with CCTV cameras and other modern amenities. They are operated by the private firm RG Mobility, while conductors are provided by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC). A dedicated charging station for the buses is also being constructed at the Leader Road workshop.
According to UPSRTC regional manager Ravindra Singh, a total of 33 modern buses have been sanctioned for Prayagraj. With six electric buses already deployed on the Prayagraj-Varanasi route, the remaining buses, expected to arrive soon, will be introduced on routes connecting Lucknow, Ayodhya, and Kanpur.
Singh added that, under the agreement between UPSRTC and the private operator, the buses and drivers will be provided by the private firm, while the conductors will continue to be deployed by the state-run corporation....
