VARANASI, Feb. 12 -- Varanasi Cyber police team arrested five cyber criminals from Dhanbad in Jharkhand on Wednesday for duping a Varanasi resident of Rs 42,50,000. The accused have been identified as Shamim Ansari, 32, Fakruddin alias Niranjan 50, Shahabuddin Ansari 34, Saheb Lal Marandi 48, and Naseem Ansari 31. Police recovered material related to the matter, four wheeler and cash from their possession. Deputy commissioner of police, crime, Akash Patel said that on December 8, 2025, Madan Mohan Mishra, a resident of Tiwaripur in Chaubepur area of Varanasi, filled a written application to the Cyber Crime Police Station in Varanasi, stating that his bank account had been illegally hacked by cyber criminals and a total of Rs 42,50,000 had been siphoned off. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Section 318(4) of the BNS and 66D of the IT Act. Later sections 61(2), 317(2), 338, 336(3), and 340(2)of the BNS were added. A team headed by inspector in-charge Udaybir Singh was constituted to solve the case. Assistant commissioner of police, cyber crime, Vidush Saxena, who supervised the team, said that the cyber police team received important inputs during the investigation through electronic surveillance. Saxena added, thereafter, five cyber criminals were arrested from Dhanbad, Jharkhand. Four Android mobile phones, one sim card, five blank Aadhar updation form, a four wheeler without number plate and cash Rs. 66000 was recovered from their possession, Saxena added. Saxena said that the cyber criminals sent a 'Trojan and SMS Forwarder-Based APK File' through which they gained unauthorized access to the bank accounts of the victims and stole the internet banking user ID and password and OTP from their mobile and gained access to the bank accounts. The criminals even changed the Aadhaar details of unsuspecting people through fraud and opened bank accounts and used it to channelise the ill-gotten money....
