44 held for abducting property dealer
Agra, May 12 -- As many as 44 people, including ex-chairman of Nagar Panchayat Barsana, were arrested on Monday and sent to jail for allegedly abducting a property dealer, who is also a lawyer, and holding him hostage over a property dispute in Barsana area of Mathura on Sunday.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Mathura Shlok Kumar said a man named Diwakar Dutt Sharma had previously worked with Balraj Chaudhary, ex-chairman of Barsana Nagar Panchayat but a dispute arose over property.
"The supporters of the ex-chairman abducted the property dealer and held him hostage. On receiving information, Mathura police rushed to the spot and got the property dealer released. Supporters of the ex-chairman, including many of those who were outsiders and ex- chairman himself, were arrested and sent to jail," stated SSP. "Legal compliance is being undertaken and it is being asserted that anyone settling matters in unlawful manner is to face strict action," the SSP said.
On Sunday evening, Diwakar was moving in his car towards Kosi Kalan town in Mathura when about 50 men including some with arms stopped his car and abducted him. Diwakar was taken to a house nearby where he was held hostage and was allegedly forced to sign some documents and was beaten when he resisted to comply.
On complaint lodged by Radhey Shyam, father of victim lawyer Diwakar Dutt Sharma, a case under section 191(2) (rioting), 191(3) (aggravated rioting), 190 (unlawful assembly), 109(1) (attempted murder), 131 (assault without provocation), 126(2) (wrongful restrain), 126(3) (wrongful confinement), 140 (1) (abduction), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (breach of peace), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), 310(2) (dacoity) of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita against ex chairman Balraj Chaudhary and his son Gopal and others....
