4 sentenced to life for man's murder in 2018
Rudrapur, Feb. 12 -- A district and sessions court in Champawat has sentenced four men to life imprisonment for the murder of a 27-year-old man in 2018, and a fine of Rs.50,000 was also imposed on each of the convicts, officials said.
Government counsel Vidyadhar Joshi said the court awarded life imprisonment to the accused on Tuesday for the murder of Pappoo Kumar, a resident of Khatima in Udham Singh Nagar district.
"The brother of the deceased had lodged an FIR in Champawat in 2019. After examining the evidence, documents and witness statements, the sessions court convicted the four accused and sentenced them to life imprisonment," Joshi said.
According to the prosecution, Deepak Kumar, a resident of Baggha-54 village in Udham Singh Nagar, filed an FIR in January 2019 stating that his brother Pappoo Kumar had entered into a love marriage with a woman from the Dhaun area on the Tanakpur-Pithoragarh road. As the couple belonged to different castes, some people allegedly developed enmity against him.
Deepak Kumar stated in his complaint that his brother had left for Champawat on December 18, 2018, and his body was later found near a hotel in the Dhaun area. He further claimed that Pappoo was last seen with Ravish Bhatt on a dumper.
