Prayagraj, Jan. 30 -- Three local residents who rescued two Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots after their microlight aircraft made an emergency landing in a pond near KP Inter College were awarded Rs.1 lakh each on Thursday. District magistrate Manish Kumar Verma presented the cheques at the district collectorate and described the trio as "real heroes". He also assured them of temporary employment in the Prayagraj municipal corporation, subject to eligibility. The incident took place on January 21, when the aircraft developed a technical snag midair and was forced to land in a pond. The pilots were trapped amid dense water hyacinth. Seeing this, Pankaj Sonkar, Lal Sahab Nishad and Alok Yadav, residents of Chitpurrav, jumped into the pond and rescued them.
