Bahraich, Jan. 23 -- Three men accused of cow slaughter were arrested during an encounter in Jarwal Road area of Bahraich early Thursday morning. One accused sustained bullet injury in his leg. Police arrested three accused while one managed to flee. According to additional superintendent of police (ASP) Ashok Kumar Singh, Jarwal Road police received a tip-off on Thursday morning that some people from Mudiyadeh village had allegedly slaughtered a calf in a nearby forest area and were preparing to transport the meat. Acting swiftly on the information, a police team led by SHO Santosh Kumar Singh, along with SSI Bindeshwari Yadav, SI Dinesh Kushwaha and other police personnel, conducted a raid in Mudiyadih forest area. At around 6.40am, the police spotted three suspects carrying meat of a slaughtered animal along with a sickle and rope. On noticing the police, the accused attempted to flee and opened fire on the police during the chase. Police retaliated during which one accused was shot in the leg and apprehended. He was identified as Jafar, a resident of Mudiyadih village under Jarwal Road police station limits. He was immediately sent to CHC in Jarwal, for medical treatment. Two other accused - Hakim, a resident of Mudiyadih, and Rizwan, a resident of Devpasiya in Katrabazar area of Gonda district - were arrested. Another accused, Akbar Ali, managed to escape and is absconding. Police recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol, one live cartridge and one spent cartridge from the possession of the injured accused.
