3 arrested over firing incident in Nainital
Haldwani, Feb. 21 -- At least three people have been arrested in connection with the February 14 firing incident in Kaladhungi town of Nainital, and country-made firearms and cartridges have also been recovered from their possession, an officer aware of the matter said on Friday.
Senior superintendent of police Manjunath TC said the Bailparao police outpost received information via Dial 112 on February 14 about a scuffle near the Bailpokhara village intersection on Haldwani Road, during which shots were allegedly fired.
A team led by the Ramnagar circle officer rushed to the spot but found no one present. The area was inspected, videographed and empty shells were recovered.
On February 16, Baljeet Kaur, wife of Lovepreet Singh and a resident of Bachchinagar village in Kaladhungi, lodged a complaint naming three people. An FIR was registered against Ranjeet Singh (31) of Bailpokhara; Mandeep Singh alias Manga (30) of Udaipuri; Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi (33) of Badhapura in Swar, Rampur district; and an unidentified person under Sections 109(1), 126(1), 352 and 351(3) of the BNS.
Police arrested the three near the Gadappu barrier in Kaladhungi on Friday.
One country-made pistol with two live cartridges was recovered from Gurpreet Singh; one country-made pistol with two live cartridges from Ranjeet Singh; and a .22 bore pistol with one live cartridge from Mandeep Singh. Additionally, 11 cartridges of .32 bore and two cartridges of .22 bore were recovered from the spot.
A separate case under Section 3/25 of the Arms Act has been registered. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive.....
