28-yr-old held in assam with 10K detonators
Silchar, Jan. 25 -- At least 10,000 detonators were recovered from an 28-year-old man arrested on Saturday at a railway station in Assam's Sribhumi district, police said. The man, identified as Akhil Ali, was arrested at Badarpur railway station in a joint operation conducted by Assam Police and Railway Protection Force (RPF). "Based on specific intelligence, a search operation was launched, during which around 10,000 detonators were recovered from the possession of Akhil Ali, who was travelling from the Nilambazar area of Sribhumi," police said in a statement.
Officials said the seized items were identified as "Cadet Alpha" class detonators, commonly used for mining and stone-blasting purposes. Preliminary probe suggests that the explosives were being transported from an auction market house in Sribhumi to Mizoram. Police, however, said the exact source, legality of procurement and the intended end use of the explosives are still under investigation. htc...
