LUCKNOW, April 16 -- Uttar Pradesh's talented swimmers, Amar Awasthi and Abhishek Kumar, on Wednesday departed to represent India at the 'World Masters Sports Finswimming Championship' to be held in Thailand, scheduled to take place in the city of Si Racha in Thailand from April 17 to 19. Narendra Singh Chauhan, general secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Underwater Sports and Finswimming Association, stated that both athletes are seasoned competitors and given their stellar track records at the national level, they have earned the opportunity to represent the country on this international stage. He further informed that during the 5th National Finswimming Championship held in Mangalore (Karnataka) in December last, Amar Awasthi won two gold medals, one each in the MV-1 Surface and MV-1 (50m Apnea) categories. During this event, he also set a new national record in the 50m Apnea category with a timing of 22.13 seconds. "It's a big achievement for Uttar Pradesh fin swimmers as they have been making their presence felt at the national level," said Chauhan. "I am sure that our swimmers will be able to do wonders at the international level too," he added. Meanwhile, Abhishek Kumar demonstrated his prowess by winning a medal in the 100m Surface event within the Senior A category. It is on the strength of this consistent performance and technical proficiency that he has been accorded a place in the Indian team.
