2 men arrested day after woman gang-raped in U.S. Nagar: police
Dehradun, Jan. 29 -- Udham Singh Nagar police arrested the two men accused of gang rape in the Transit Camp area in Rudrapur city within 24 hours of the FIR registration, officers said on Wednesday. They also recovered the car used in the crime and a forensic team collected crucial evidence from the scene, they added.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Udham Singh Nagar, Manikant Mishra, said strict instructions had been issued for swift action against crime.
"A special police team was constituted under the supervision of the superintendent of police (crime), superintendent of police (city) and circle officer, Rudrapur, and led by the station in-charge of Transit Camp police station," he said.
SSP Mishra said a case was registered at Transit Camp police station on January 26 under sections 70(1) (gang rape) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS, based on a complaint filed by the victim.
The complainant stated that on the morning of January 25, she was heading from her residence in Awas Vikas, Transit Camp, to her workplace in SIDCUL when two men offered her a lift in a car after she failed to find public transport.
Police said the woman alleged that she was later sexually assaulted inside the moving vehicle and dropped off in the SIDCUL area.
The SSP said acting on the complaint and available evidence, police arrested the first accused, Rahul Das (34), a resident of Adarsh Colony, Rudrapur, on Tuesday evening.
The car used for the crime was seized, and the district forensic team collected evidence.
In a follow-up operation, the second accused, Furqan (36), a resident of Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested late on Tuesday evening with the assistance of the Special Operations Group (SOG) from near the SIDCUL area....
