BAHRAICH, Jan. 31 -- As many as 13 police personnel were on Friday suspended and departmental action was initiated against them after an inquiry by special investigation teams found them guilty of irregularities and corruption in probing road accident compensation claims cases in Gonda, Bahraich and Shravasti districts, said Amit Pathak, inspector general of police, Devipatan range. All those placed under suspension were investigating officers of road accident claim cases. They included nine from Bahraich and two each from Gonda and Shravasti districts. Twelve of them are sub-inspectors and one inspector. The action followed a complaint filed by one Rajendra Pratap Singh, an officer with an insurance company, who approached the IG alleging large-scale manipulation in the investigation of road accident claim cases for financial gains. Taking the matter seriously, IG Pathak directed the police chiefs of the concerned districts to constitute SITs to reinvestigate such cases. The reinvestigation revealed irregularities in 13 cases....
