LUCKNOW, May 12 -- After objecting to a couple of popular English nursery rhymes "Johnny, Johnny! Yes Papa? Eating sugar? No papa" and "Rain, rain, go away, little Johnny wants to play" last week, Uttar Pradesh higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyaya on Monday said he will write a letter to the Centre demanding removal of such poems from NCERT syllabus 'as they are against Indian values'. "I will definitely write a letter to Union education minister with a request to remove these poems from NCERT syllabus and that it should not be taught to children in ICSE and CBSE schools any more because it teaches selfishness and sows seeds of lies," Upadhyaya said at a press conference . He clarified that he is not against English being taught in schools and only opposed the sentiments hidden within it. "Telling a lie? No, Papa... Through these lines, the habit of lying creeps into the consciousness of kids. The subsequent line-"Open your mouth: Ha, ha, ha!"-reflects a child mocking his father or elders. This, too, runs contrary to our cultural values," the minister said....
