'Police Satark Mitra' WhatsApp bot rolled out across nine districts
VARANASI, Jan. 25 -- Additional director general of police (ADG) Piyush Mordia on Friday launched the WhatsApp bot, Police Satark Mitra, in nine districts, including Ghazipur, Mau, Ballia, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Chandauli, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, and Bhadohi. Through the bot, citizens can report any criminal activity by simply saving the WhatsApp bot number 7839860411 on their mobile phones.
While launching the bot, Mordia said it is a secure and confidential platform that allows citizens to share information on illegal activities without revealing their identity. Developed by deputy inspector general of police, Varanasi range, Vaibhav Krishna, the bot enables reporting of crimes such as cow smuggling, liquor and narcotics trafficking, illegal weapons, crimes against women and children, forced religious conversion, illegal mining, and other unlawful activities.
The ADG added that the SP in each district will supervise the system and ensure prompt action on received inputs. Information can be submitted through the available options on the bot, along with evidence in the form of photos, videos, audio, or text, and can also be shared by scanning the QR code, he added.
Since its launch in three districts of the Varanasi range by DIG Vaibhav Krishna in December 2025, the bot has received at least 100 inputs on illegal activities such as cow, liquor, and arms smuggling within a week of its rollout.
DIG Krishna said that action is being taken on the reported illegal activities.
According to a press statement, information related to 87 illegal activities was received, including 38 reports from Jaunpur, 36 from Ghazipur, and 13 from Chandauli. Three inputs pertained to cow smuggling or slaughter, six illegal drugs, 10 illegal weapons, two gambling or speculation, four tampered points, 10 illegal mining or overloaded vehicles, five extortion or police corruption, one forced religious conversion, and 46 other activities were received.htc...
