'Link voter list to Aadhaarto avoid duplication'
LUCKNOW, Jan. 25 -- Reiterating his demand of linking the voter list to Aadhaar to avoid duplication, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the Election Commission (EC) was partial in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
Addressing a press conference in Lucknow on Saturday, he said, "The BJP government is colluding with poll officials to manipulate and rig the voter list. They are adding fake votes and removing the votes of PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak)."
"If a constitutional institution does not function impartially, who will trust it? The BJP government is getting things done at its whim, and discrimination is taking place at every level," he alleged.
"Aadhaar cards should be made of metal and linked to the voter list. This will put an end to irregularities and fraud in the electoral rolls," he demanded.
Referring to discrepancies that have surfaced even after the SIR, Akhilesh said the reports emerging about the voter list were bringing "serious disrepute" to the EC. Displaying a list of more than 200 allegedly fake and duplicate voters from the Kannauj assembly constituency, he claimed the BJP was colluding with certain officials to create bogus votes.
"It appears that the Election Commission had no preparation for the SIR. The Commission should clarify who is providing technical support for this exercise. We demand that the Election Commission explain to the Samajwadi Party's technical team what exactly is happening with the SIR and the voter list. There are instances of two votes with the same name in the rolls. How many fake votes can we identify manually? The Election Commission should assist us," he said.
He said the EC had earlier said no notice would be issued to voters whose mapping had been completed. "However, notices are now being sent to 22.2 million voters citing mapping errors. In total, notices have been issued to 32.6 million voters. Even details of the hearings are not being shared with political parties or booth-level agents (BLAs)," he alleged.
Akhilesh further claimed that BLOs, being government employees, were under pressure from the government. "They are posted and influenced on the basis of caste. While BLOs will be present during hearings, BLAs of political parties will not. The Commission had earlier stated that BLOs and BLAs would work together, but BLAs are now being excluded. Information about hearings is not even being conveyed to voters, indicating large-scale manipulation in the name of hearings," he said. On a question on Avimukteshwaranand, he said: "Shankaracharya Ji stands firmly with the truth. We support him in this fight. Those who are searching for Kalnemi should first identify who the Kalnemi of Kali Yuga is and who is deceiving public."...
