Varanasi, Feb. 1 -- Former ISRO chairman and Padma Awardee AS Kiran Kumar on Saturday said if Indian knowledge systems are integrated with Artificial Intelligence, India can do wonders. He called upon young scientists to use AI in the interest of mankind. Speaking at the launch of Achintya magazine's AI special issue and Vigyan Ganga's 13th edition at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Kumar praised Achintya Magazine for its contribution to scientific discourse. Indian knowledge systems include indigenous and ancient Indian knowledge covering philosophy, science, technology, architecture, and mathematics, promoting holistic and sustainable approaches to modern challenges. Kumar credited Vikram Sarabhai, the legendary physicist widely known as the Father of India's Space Programme, for connecting India with space technology when the country was barely a decade old as an independent nation. "After World War II, the space race began between Russia and America. When Russia took the lead, America devised a strategy to overtake it. At that very time, India had only been independent for 10 years and was trying to understand the world. Vikram Sarabhai connected India with technology and established it in the space sector during this period," Kumar said. He explained how ISRO's vision has transformed lives. After the geostationary satellite, satellite broadcasting services reached 2,400 villages in just one year with NASA's cooperation. By 1999, ISRO used satellites to inform fishermen about potential catches. Cyclone prediction became possible three to four days in advance. Kumar noted that India primarily used space technology for non-military purposes like agriculture, weather forecasting, fisheries and telecommunications, unlike global practices....
