LUCKNOW, Feb. 24 -- To educate youths about the history of the census in the state, the department of culture will display rare postal records and stamps highlighting the evolution of census operations. The Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Abhilekhagar will host a five-day special exhibition titled 'Ginti Mein Aao: A Postal History of the Census in Independent India'. The exhibition will open on February 24 and continue until February 28 at the Archives building in Mahanagar Extension, Lucknow. It will be open to the public daily from 11 am to 5 pm. Sheetal Verma, director of census operations and citizen registration, will inaugurate the event. The exhibition will bring together rare stamps, postmarks, official correspondence, and archival postal material to highlight a lesser-known aspect of governance - the role of India's postal network in carrying out and communicating census operations after Independence. From awareness campaigns to the dispatch of training manuals and official forms, the display will show how the postal system served as a backbone of nationwide enumeration efforts. The initiative presents the history of the census in an engaging and accessible format. "The census is not just about numbers; it shapes development planning and public policy.
