Woman mid-day meal worker murdered in Kangra govt school
Dharamshala, Feb. 13 -- A female mid-day meal worker was allegedly murdered within the premises of a government school in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, triggering panic and outrage in the area.
The incident took place at the Government Primary School in Chanour village in the Dehra area. The deceased has been identified as Salochna Devi (59), a resident of Chanour.
Police officials said that upon receiving information, a team from Dadasiba police station reached the spot. "On arrival, Salochna Devi (59), a mid-day meal worker at the school, was found lying injured and unconscious on the school premises. After preserving the scene, she was rushed to the Community Health Centre in Dadasiba, where doctors declared her brought dead," police said in a statement.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Rakesh Kumar alias Monu (45), also a resident of Chanour village, allegedly attacked the woman with a sharp-edged weapon inside the school premises.
After the incident, the accused attempted to flee, but the police apprehended him within half an hour at a short distance from the spot. The weapon used in the crime was also recovered.
Dehra Superintendent of Police Mayank Chaudhary said, "After receiving information, the police apprehended the accused within 30 minutes. A case has been registered at Dadasiba police station and further investigation is underway."
Meanwhile, leader of Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, while speaking to the media in Mandi, expressed concern over the "deteriorating" law and order situation in the state.
Referring to the murder of a mid-day meal worker in Dehra assembly constituency and other few recent incidents, he said that such incidents and brazen crime had never been witnessed in the history of Devbhoomi.
Targeting the CM, he said that despite holding the Home Department, criminals are unbridled and the "government is merely a mute spectator"....
