Tension in Belicharana as JDA officials demolish compound wall
Jammu, Jan. 16 -- Tension prevailed in Belicharana area, on the outskirts of Jammu city, after agitated locals pelted stones at the vehicles of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) during a demolition drive on Thursday.
Locals, largely migrants from Doda district, alleged that the JDA used JCB machines and demolished their graveyard. A top official of the JDA denied the charges and said that the JDA team under the supervision of director land management Garbi Rashid Dar had gone to the area to remove encroachment from state land measuring around 10 to 15 Kanals.
"The team demolished the compound wall because under the garb of raising it, the encroachers were trying to usurp 10 to 15 kanals of JDA land," he said. He informed that even the graveyard has been set up on state land without any proper allotment or permission from the JDA. "Fully aware to the religious sentiments, the JDA team didn't touch the graveyard but demolished a compound wall that was being raised to usurp adjoining 10 to 15 kanals of JDA land," said the official....
