Srinagar, April 30 -- The economic offences wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir has registered a formal case against an unauthorised consultancy in Pattan, Baramulla, following a complaint of overseas employment fraud. Officials said on Wednesday that the complainant was promised a high-paying job as a computer operator in Cambodia. After transferring a significant sum to the operator and self-funding his travel, the victim arrived in Cambodia only to be met by unknown individuals who allegedly coerced him into participating in fraudulent online activities. The victim refused to comply and returned home after realising he had been deceived. A preliminary investigation by the Srinagar EOW determined that the allegations constitute offences under Section 318(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
