six charred to death in fire at House in HP during festival
Shimla, Jan. 16 -- Six people, including 3 children- all of one family- were charred to death, while one was injured in a fire that broke out at Talangna village of Nauradhar in Sirmaur district on Wednesday night, officials said on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Naresh Kumar, 50, his wife Tripta Devi, 44, both residents of Rajgarh in Sirmaur and her sister Kavita, 36, and her three children - Kritika, 13, Sarika, 13, and Kartik, 3, all residents of Nerva in Shimla district, they added. Kavita's husband Lokender Kumar, 42, was rescued and was admitted to Solan hospital.
Two cows and one calf were also burnt alive.
The vicitms were visiting the place to celebrate Maghi festival and Boda Tyohar at their maternal house in Talangana village under Ghanduri panchayat. Boda Tyohar is the biggest annual festival of Hattee tribes of Sirmaur district in which daughters visit their parent's house.
In his statement to the police, Lokender explained that he and his family had come to his in-laws' house in Talangana to celebrate the Maghi festival. His sister-in-law and her husband were also present for the occasion.
"After having dinner together on Wednesday night, the family went to sleep around 11 pm. Around 3 am, smoke suddenly filled the room, followed by a loud explosion from the kitchen. Flamed quickly engulfed the house," the police said.
