silence observed to mourn demise of Senior NC leader from Kargil
Jammu, Feb. 14 -- Senior National Conference (NC) leader from Ladakh, Qamar Ali Akhoon, who hailed from Kargil district passed away on Friday.
Two-minutes silence was observed in the assembly. The former food minister of the erstwhile J&K state, Qamar Ali Akhoon's death has been widely mourned by the people in Jammu and Kashmir besides Ladakh. NC spokesperson and legislator Tanveer Sadiq informed the House about the demise of the veteran leader. Soon after the announcement, members of House expressed profound sorrow and paid rich tributes to his political and public service legacy. Akhoon hailed from Sangra village of Kargil and was known to be humble and down to earth politician, who easily accessible to the people.
Members across party lines acknowledged his contribution to public welfare and his role in articulating the concerns of people from far-flung and high-altitude areas. Legislators described him as a committed leader who remained accessible to the masses and worked towards strengthening democratic institutions in the region....
